Admission

For the academic year 2007-08, a maximum of 12 students will be admitted to the program. Admissions will be decided after a comparative evaluation of candidates, as indicated in the Bando di Concorso (to be published in The Gazzetta Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana).
What follows is a summary of all information relevant for application. Applicants must hold an Italian “laurea specialistica” or equivalent foreign degree, or plan to be awarded such a degree not later than the beginning of courses (i.e. October). There are no limitations on the nationality of the candidates.
The candidates must register for the “Concorso” either on line or by sending their application by registered mail to “Segreteria Dottorati di Ricerca”, University of Cagliari (see the University website: www.unica.it). All documents can be either in Italian or English.
The selection of candidates will be based on: 1) a written test (in Italian or English) on arguments dealing with the research projects of the School, and, 2) an oral interview. Candidates should send a brief C.V. and two letters of presentation to the Director. A good knowledge of English is required for admission.
The 7 most qualified candidates among those admitted (as resulting from the admission list) will be awarded a grant and will be exempted from the payment of the annual fee.

PLEASE NOTE. If the candidate has a foreign degree whose equivalence to the Italian laurea has not been declared yet, he/she must provide all documents useful to allow the faculty members to declare the equivalence. The documents must be translated and legalized by the competent Italian representatives abroad (Embassy, Consulate).
Fees:
There are no fees for the candidates holding a fellowship. A fee must be paid by the other successful candidates not holding a fellowship (for details ask to Ufficio Dottorato di Ricerca).

Financial Support:
The 7 most qualified candidates (as resulting from the admission list) are awarded a grant of € 10561/year (€ 10068 net of social security contribution) for the whole duration of the PhD programme (3 maximum). The grant is increased if the students undertake a period of visiting research-ship in a foreign academic or research institution.
It is possible that also other candidates are awarded a grant from other public or private institutions. However, the availability of the grant may not always be assured before the admission.
